Thyroid Ultrasound

<p>This educational session will require a total of 60 minutes of instruction on basic neck ultrasonography, anatomy of the thyroid gland and targeted fine needle biopsy of thyroid nodules. Medical students in the third (MS3) and fourth (MS4) years of training are the target audience for this course. </p> <p> </p>

The objectives of the ultrasound guided thyroid ultrasound and biopsy simulation session.

1. Students should be able to appreciate the anatomy of the thyroid gland

2.  Understand the critical anatomic landmarks required to complete a successful ultrasound-guided biopsy of a thyroid nodule.

3.  Competencies acquired during this session will be pivotal in the performance of fine needle biopsies of thyroid nodules but other nodules in extra-thyroidal sites.
