EDIC

Intensive diabetes treatment and cardiovascular disease in patients with type 1 diabetes

• Metabolic memory: At the end of the DCCT study, the mean A1C was 7.4% vs 9.1%. At the end of the extension of DCCT i.e EDIC, there was no between arm difference in A1C. The risk of
retinopathy and nephropathy in the intensive arm were however lower than that of the conventional arm, despite comparable A1Cs at the end of EDIC!
• Compared with conventional therapy, intensive therapy was associated with a reduced risk of CV events (42% reduction)
