ADVANCE: Intensive blood glucose control and vascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes.

• An A1C goal of <6.5% results in a significant reduction in the risk of nephropathy, based on the ADVANCE study.

• The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists recommends an A1C goal of ≤6.5% for most patients if it can be achieved safely without the risk of hypoglycemia. (AACE 2018)

• An A1C goal of ≤6.5 is recommended in patients with recently diagnosed T2DM and no clinically significant CVD. (AACE 2018)
