ELITE – The Early versus Late Intervention Trial with Estradiol

ELITE – The Early versus Late Intervention Trial with Estradiol

• Unlike the KEEPS study which showed no beneficial effect of HRT in early postmenopausal women, the ELITE trial showed a beneficial effect of HRT in this group – further affirming the “hormone
timing” hypothesis.
• Menopausal hormone therapy should not be initiated in postmenopausal women who are either >60years or > 10years since the diagnosis of menopause (Endocrine Society).
