PTH(1-34) : Effect of parathyroid hormone (1-34) on fractures and bone mineral density in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis

• Parathyroid hormone (1-34) reduces the risk of vertebral and nonvertebral fractures.

• The 40mcg dose increases BMD more than the 20mcg dose but is more likely to cause side effects. The 20mcg dose is therefore recommended. (AACE)

• Approved for vertebral and nonvertebral fractures, excluding hip fractures.
