Thyroid lobectomy for treatment of well differentiated intrathyroid malignancy

• For DTC <1cm unifocal, intrathyroidal, N0, absence of prior head and neck irradiation, and familial thyroid cancer, thyroid lobectomy alone is sufficient. (ATA guidelines 2015)

• This represents a paradigm shift in recommendations regarding the extent of surgery in selected patients with differentiated thyroid cancer.
